Lark on Lowther is a great new place to catch up with friends: A coffee shop with a difference, not only do they we have superb coffee, scrumptious home-made cakes, and savouries, they’ve also got shopping… Yes really!!! While you unwind and chat you can browse their gorgeous and unusual gifts around the store, whether it’s a treat for you, your best friend or your little one…
This beautiful Victorian curved glass building is a special little spot, you might have seen it on your travels, on the corner of Lowther road where it meets Preston Drove. It is what used to be the Old Bakery. Owners Melanie and Danielle met through their husbands who have been friends for over 20 years. They instantly clicked over their shared passion for wine, their obsession for great coffee, and their mean eye for design. Danielle, originally from Melbourne, has a 15yr background in retail, she moved to Brighton last year and lives on Lowther road with her husband and young family who attend Balfour Primary School. Melanie has many years expertise in sales but wanted to work for herself with hours to suit her family, she lives in Hove with her husband and her two teenagers. Both women were keen to bring to Brighton something of the coffee shop lifestyle of Oz, combined with a great little gift shop filled with carefully selected, beautifully designed products.
They aim to provide a friendly, relaxing and welcoming environment. As parents themselves, they understand the needs of families: there’s an area for buggies, children’s area, kiddy snacks and babychino’s.
But this place is somewhere that the whole community can feel welcome, with free Wi Fi you now have an excuse to get out of your home office for a bit, enjoy a morning coffee on their sunny window seat while you watch the world go by, or drop by after the often manic school drop off and take a bit of time for you.
Lark on Lowther wants to be a great little hub of the community, with plans to host local knitting and book group nights, and childrens reading mornings. So why not pop along meet the girls and make yourself at home.
